Silive is reporting the settlement of a lawsuit with the estate of a pedestrian that was hit by a car in 2002. The victim, Lawrence Sinsheimer, was paralyzed after he was struck by a Mercedes-Benz in August of 2002 on Midland Avenue. The driver of the car, Ajay Angras, hit Mr. Sinsheimer with such force that he was knocked out of his shoes and thrown 40 feet into the air. He was paralyzed from the waist down and spent his remaining days in a nursing home, where he died from causes unrelated to the accident, said his lawyer, Bruce G. Behrins. The case settled at a conference before Justice John A. Fusco prior to jury selection. The defendant was represented by the law firm of Connors and Connors.

Man Settles Case against City of New York for $2.5M

Barberi. Our client was a passenger onboard the Barberi and sustained serious injuries when the ferry boat crashed into a concrete pier just outside the St. George Terminal. Despite his injuries, the client continued to aid in the rescue of the severely injured passengers on the ferry while awaiting emergency help. The client sustained numerous injuries to his neck, knee and shoulder during the crash. Due to his injuries, the client underwent spinal fusion surgery and multiple knee and shoulder surgeries. The parents of a 7-year old boy who died at the Rye Playland Amusement Park have reached a settlement with Westchester County, the park’s owners, for $1.25 million, 1010wins is reporting. The boy, Jon-Kely Cassara, died while on the Ye Olde Mill ride, in which small boats move through a dark enchanted forest scene. After the ride started, the boy got out of his boat and somehow ended up in its channel of water. The cause of death was blunt trauma to his head. County officials acknowledged that the ride was understaffed and should never have been opened that day as only two workers were present, a violation of the park’s policy requiring three workers present to staff the ride.

Staten Island man awarded $22.5 million

A Staten Island Jury awarded a 61 year old man stricken with polio $22.5 million dollars. The jury reached the verdict in favor of Dominick Tenuto, a former Wall Street executive who contracted polio 30 years ago after his then infant daughter received the polio vaccination produced by Lederle Laboratories. The vaccination given to his daughter contained the live polio virus and passed through his infant daughter and infected Tenuto while he was changing her diaper. The verdict, which Lederle Laboratories plans to appeal, is believed to be one of the largest verdicts ever in Staten Island.
